Dear Regina Public Schools Families:

The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation announced today that “On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, there will be a provincewide strike by all members of the STF. All Federation members will withdraw all professional and voluntary services for the entire day. STF members will not report to nor enter their place of work.”

Regina Public Schools teachers, principals and vice-principals, consultants and other positions are members of the STF and therefore will not be in schools on that day. As a result, all schools will be closed for students on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. In addition, all extra-curricular activities and school-age care programs (before and after school programs) will be cancelled.  All non-STF staff will report to work as usual.

Please note that Monday, January 15, 2024 is a previously scheduled Professional Development Day, for elementary schools, which means that there is no school for elementary students.

Any further job action will be determined by the STF, but could impact extra-curricular programming, supervision at the start or end of the day and/or at noon, the length of the school day, and/or transportation pick up and drop off times. Given the range of potential actions, we advise families to think about alternative transportation and/or childcare plans.

Our understanding is that the STF will provide 48 hours’ notice of job action and we will notify families and staff as soon as possible of any impacts in Regina Public schools, via email/text using our School Messenger system, our website, Edsby, and social media platforms.

We hope that by keeping you informed, families can make plans and we can work together to provide for the safety and well-being of students.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please email the school division at info@rbe.sk.ca or 306 523-3000.
