World Down Syndrome Day

MARCH 20, 2024—World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), held on March 21st every year, is a global awareness day that has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The date for WDSD of the 21st day of the 3rd month was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

This year’s theme is “Assume that I can so maybe I will,” an international call to end harmful stereotypes. People with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities encounter stereotypes every day and are often underestimated, excluded, treated poorly and even abused.

Let us all join together to advocate for the rights, inclusion and wellbeing of those with Down syndrome.
